In Depth Analysis of Election Results
General Elections 2009 in India got over and on 14th May 2009 the final
results were decleared and Congress Led UPA won a majority, well almost
and formed the government. On the face of it the results look pretty balanced
and there seemed to be a general sentiment towards a Congress led government
formation amongst the electorate in India.

Nadu just to name a few.

All India Top Line Analysis:
- In
all 417 million voters exercised their franchise in this election or
these many valid votes were cast.
- All
the winning candidates got 184 million votes, runners up got 142 million
votes and rest of the losing candidates got 88 million votes; expressed
as a percentage all the winners put together got 44% of the total valid
votes, whereas all the losing candidates got 55% of the valid votes
polled.
- Uttar
Pradesh that sends a maximum 80 Member of Parliament had a 13% shares
of National Votes; a close second was West Bengal with 10.24 % share
of votes, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 10.08% of votes.
- The luckiest candidate in general election 2009 was Namo Narain of
Indian National Congress who won the Tonk
Sawai Madhopur seat in Rajasthan with the narrowest victory margin on
317 votes. This automatically makes the runner up Kariri Singh Bainsla
as the unluckiest candidate in this elections.
- Congress Candidates came second in 143 parliamentary seats; followed
by 110 of BJP that were runners up or came second behind the winning
candidate.
- BSP comes across as the strongest contender for a come back in UP
as 47 of its candidates were runners up meaning it is the only political
party in UP that cuts across geographies and has a presence in the entire
state.
- In
total 102 symbols were assigned to various candidates and apart form
national parties other candidates had to make do with the symbols assigned
by the Indian Election Commission. The election symbols ranged from
Elephant, Hand, Lotus to frying pan, electric bulb, pressure cooker,
rising sun, ice cream, hat, slate and so on.
