Manmohan Singh was sworn in with his
19 member cabinet as the Prime Minister of India for the second
time after successfully completing full five years in office.
At 6:30 PM IST Manmohan Singh was sworn in as the Prime Minster
of India for the second time. He is the only prime minister of independent
India after Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru to have returned as a prime minister
after a full five year term.
The ceremony lasted about 45 minutes and ended with the national
anthem of India being played out.
Along with him 19 cabinet ministers have been sworn in by the President
of India Pratibha Patil in a ceremony hosted in the Rashtrapati
Bhawan in New Delhi; national capital of India.
More ministers will be sworn in on tuesday and amongst those that
will be sworn in will be Fariq Abdullah.
C P Joshi, Kamal Nath and Meira Kumar took the oath in Hindi. There
were some light moments in the ceremony, the entire attendance burst
out laughing when Kamal Nath started before the President. Sonia
Gandhi, Manmohan Singhwere clearly seen smiling at the eagerness
of Kamal Nath to get on with it.
Those in attendence were Lalu Prasad Yadav, Seetaram Yathuri, L
K Advani and Media Moghul Subhash Chandra. Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka
Gandhi, Robert Vadhera, Rahul Gandhi, Sheela Dixit were some of
the leaders present.
The oath that was taken by the ministers goes as follows:
I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India
that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties as
the minister of the union. I will do right to all manner of people
in accordance with the constitution & law without fear or favour;
affection or ill will.
I do solemnly affirm I will not directly or indirectly
communicate or reveal to any person or persons any matter which
shall be brought under my consideration or shall be known to me
known to me as a minister to the union except as may be required
for the due discharge of my duties as such a minister.
